Working as a Search Engine Evaluator - An iSoftStone Review

Web search evaluators and ad raters are highly sought after positions, and with good reason! The pay is halfway decent, somewhere in the range of $12 to $15 per hour, and in most cases, you can set your own hours as long as you work the required number of hours. While you are a contractor, unless you are hired by ZeroChaos that hires you as an employee, it is usually a long-term contract of at least 6 months.

There are five companies that I know of that hire search engine evaluators and ad raters, and iSoftStone is one of them. Here is an honest iSoftStone review from someone who has worked there.

What is iSoftStone?

iSoftStone is an IT company, founded in China. Its specializations include cloud, mobility, and application services.

What does an iSoftStone Search Engine Evaluator do?

These days, we think nothing of typing in a search term for Google or Bing to come back with results for us to read. But there is a ton of work that goes on behind the scenes in order to make that happen, and make the searches relevant. While there are computer algorithms at work, there are also people who help improve the accuracy of search results. Web search evaluators are some of those people.

In this job, you will take a predefined list of keywords, query the search engine, and then analyze the results to see how relevant they are. Then, you will rate them on a numerical scale that will help improve search engine results. Sound like something you’d like to do? Read on.

What is the schedule like?

This is a flexible position in terms of hours. However, from what I have read, logging on in the morning will yield the most work. You are expected to get 10-25 hours in each week.

How would I be paid?

The pay rate is $12 an hour in US funds. Payday is done via direct deposit or Paypal once a month. You are considered a contract worker, so you will get a 1099 at the end of the year for your total pay if you make more than $600 in a calendar year.

iSoftStone Search Engine Evaluator

Once you submit your application and resume, they will evaluate it to see if you make a good fit. If you do, they will send you an e-mail with an assessment to see how good you are with evaluating landing pages and various websites. If you do well on the first part of the assessment, they will send you a second email with a link to a second assessment to take. If you pass this stage, they will invite you to take the training.

Unfortunately, the training is NOT paid. And from what I can gather, the training process is rather lengthy, as it is with Leapforce and Lionbridge (note that ZeroChaos has very easy training, speaking from experience). Then, you must pass a test. There are three training modules available to take. While it is not required, it is probably a good idea to take them all. It will help you pass the test.

If you apply, good luck! And please let me know of any feedback you may have regarding this position. There isn’t much out there!
