Make Money with Smartphone Apps - Let’s Go Shopping!

One of my favorite things about owning a smartphone is being able to make money with smartphone apps. There are a few different categories of apps that allow you to do this, one being shopping apps.

Note that these apps are all free to download, so why not give them a shot? Keep the ones you like and have the most success with, and delete the ones that don’t. I’ve provided links for the apps, all of which have both iOS and Android counterparts. Have fun!

Pricespotting: Scan products at stores to find the best prices, and get paid for doing so! Get 20 points for each regular and sale price you enter. Once you get to 1,000 points, you can exchange them for cash.

Platforms: iPhone and Android.

Ibotta: Earn cash rebates for shopping, eating out, and even going to the movies! Just scan the barcode of the item in Ibotta, and upload the receipt. Once verified, you’ll get cash in your PayPal or Venmo account. You can also exchange your earnings for gift cards. I have used this, and I have successfully cashed out a few times.

Platforms: iPhone and Android.

Receipt Hog: Take pictures of your receipts, earn coins and rewards, redeem for cash and gift cards! You can even submit e-receipts! Keep in mind that the amount of coins you depends on how much you spent on your shopping trip. You are also limited to 20 receipts per week. The more receipts you submit, the more earning opportunities you will unlock (surveys, barcode scans, etc.). 1,000 coins = $5 PayPal cash or a $5 Amazon.com gift card.

Platforms: iPhone and Android.

ReceiptPal: Much like Receipt Hog, you earn points for submitting pictures of your shopping receipts, both hard copies and e-receipts by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. The difference is, you have to fill a card that is made up of 4 receipt submissions. Each card is worth 100 points, so it takes 4 receipts to earn 100 points. There are also survey e-mails they send out which can earn you 125 points. You can start redeeming your points for rewards once you hit 325 points. Looks like rewards are limited to Amazon and Restaurant.com gift cards.

Platforms: iPhone and Android.

Shopkick: Earn points for walking in the door as well as scanning and purchasing certain items at some of your favorite stores, then redeem the points for gift cards! As often as I visit my local Target (which is right up the street from where I live…EEK!), I earn 35 points just for walking into the store. If I have time, I will scan barcodes for extra points.

Platforms: iPhone and Android

JingIt: Just purchase participating products and scan the receipt to earn cash! Participating stores include Walmart, Target, and Kroger. Sometimes, they have ads you can view for payment (like $0.10), but they are few and far between for me. Looks like the only way you have access to your cash is to get their Visa prepaid debit card. Otherwise, the only thing your cash gets is music.me purchases.

Platforms: iPhone and Android

Checkout 51: Much like Ibotta, Checkout 51 pays you cash when you purchase select items at your local store(s) or even online. You then upload the receipt for proof of purchase. You can cash out once your account reaches $20.

Platforms: iPhone and Android

Shopmium: Receive exclusive offers available at your local neighborhood stores and try products for free or receive a cash rebate for purchasing select products. Just like Ibotta, all you need to do is scan the barcode and upload a receipt for verification. You can get your rebates via PayPal, your bank account, or donate your rebates to charity.

Platforms: iPhone and Android

P.S. If you’d like more tips on how to earn a side income, there are a number of ways to do so.
